Open Mic Night receives a generous donation Thanks to John and Lianne at The Globe Inn, the Open Mic Night crew were recently able to buy a rather nice guitar for the club to make it easier for more people to be able to spontaneously play (and sound good too!). Also some nice new speaker stands mean that the sound now projects better through the pub.
Open Mic Night - every 2nd Thursday of the month - do come along!

Buckfastleigh Arts Group
– plans for 2008

2007 was a difficult year in many ways, with our main music event, BAGFest 2007, being rained off at the last moment, resulting in unavoidable costs with nothing to show for it! The Summer of Love project also failed to come to fruition for a number of reasons. We don't talk about it, man - we jus' dream'd too big...

...but putting things behind us, and hopefully having learnt from our experience, we have some exciting projects in the pipeline for 2008 – as well as the ongoing success of the monthly Open Mic Night and Home Artists Group (see below).

For those of you new to the group:

The aims of the Buckfastleigh Arts Group are to stimulate interest from within the community, and encourage participation in, and enjoyment of art in all its forms:

Performing arts – music, drama, dance, etc.
Visual arts – sculpture, fine art, photography, etc.
Creative writing – poetry, humour, story-writing, etc.
Digital media – video projects, computer art, etc.

- through staging events such as workshops, classes, exhibitions, performances, festivals, etc.

The Buckfastleigh Arts Group operates with an open policy such that all are welcome to come and join in with their enthusiasm and to make things happen. Wherever possible, BAG shall help facilitate both credible and incredible ideas that arise from within the group and the community at large.

Building on the success of the first Art in the Oven exhibition event last September, we are holding another small open evening in our local pizza café-restaurant where everyone is welcome to come and meet us and talk about how the Artists' Group might expand, and also hear the exciting news of BAG's planned involvement with this year's Devon Open Studios art-trails project (see below).
So please come and join us and see some of our group's latest work on show whilst enjoying the hospitality of The Baker's Oven (at your own expense!).
